As someone who worked from home for years, I know how easy it is to get stir crazy. Here are my tips for making this uncertain time feel a bit more normal*: – Maintain some semblance of a routine. When I started working for myself, there would be times when G came home at 6 PM and I hadn’t washed my face, brushed my hair, or even changed out of the sweats from the night before (😬). Those days corresponded with the ones I was least productive. But on the mornings that I got dressed, put on some makeup, made the bed, brewed coffee, and prepared for my day like I was heading into the office, I saw a significant uptick in my productivity. And look, I’m not saying to change into a power suit and pumps. Even changing out of your PJs and into a (fresh) sweatshirt, leggings, and Uggs works, too! – Stick to your normal schedule as best you can. If you had meetings with teammates on the calendar, keep them (but make them virtual!). – Move as much as possible. It’s been raining on and off in LA, so this has looked different every day. This morning I went on a solo hike, but called and spoke to a friend the entire time. Tomorrow, it might be relay races inside. Movement of any kind helps to clear your head! – Do something a bit more special than you’d usually do. This morning, I put on perfume that makes me think of my mom, and Sloan noticed. Light the candle you’ve been saving. Pop a bottle of Champagne. It’s all about those little moments and touchpoint to help us maintain some sense of normalcy. Let’s do ourselves a service and take care of ourselves physically and mentally – and please let me know how I can help through this experience! 💕 *While it goes without saying, it’s worth mentioning that I feel so privileged to run my own business and to know I can take the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our entire team during this difficult time. But I recognize that’s not true for everyone – and for those of you who are struggling or are unable to social distance, know we’re thinking of you and appreciate the tough circumstances you’re in. For anyone who *is* fortunate enough to be able to work from home, it’s our collective social responsibility to stay in.
